Annual Well Woman ExamHere at Gynecology Associates of Gwinnett, there is no such thing as a small or silly question in regard to reproductive health and wellness. We strive to create an environment where women can speak freely and comfortably about any concern or topic. Open communication with our gynecological providers is an essential tool during all of our appointments. So in the spirit of openness and knowledge, our board-certified gynecologist wanted to answer a few questions on reproductive health topics including laser vaginal rejuvenation, labiaplasty surgery, and well-woman exams.

Question #1: Am I a good candidate for vaginal tightening if I had natural vaginal laxity before childbirth?

We have had fantastic results using FemTouch™ laser vaginal rejuvenation treatments to help treat vaginal laxity (looseness), regardless of the root cause of the issue. It’s true that many women turn to vaginal tightening treatments after childbirth, but every woman’s anatomy is different. It even has the added benefit of improving urinary incontinence for those who experience it. If you are interested, we highly recommend consulting with a board-certified gynecologist who has experience performing FemTouch™ to help determine if this treatment would be able to help.

Question #2: What should I expect from recovery following a labiaplasty procedure?

Recovery after labiaplasty is fairly straightforward in most cases. The majority of patients are up and moving the same day as their labiaplasty. During the first couple of days following their procedure, patients can use ice packs on their incisions to minimize swelling/bruising. Performing everyday tasks are fine, as long as they do not irritate the incision site(s). Patients generally report returning to work within 1-2 weeks as long as their job does not entail rigorous physical activity.

Question #3: How can I prepare for an upcoming well-woman exam?

One of the most important things to do while preparing for a well-woman exam is to keep a list of any especially important questions or concerns to make sure that nothing is missed or forgotten during the appointment. This includes any unfamiliar changes noticed since the last annual appointment. Additionally, it’s critical to come prepared with knowledge of a family history of any relevant reproductive health conditions or any other information that can potentially assist your gynecological provider.

We hope that these answers prove helpful.
