Dr_Kristine_Gould

Welcome to the latest installment in our ongoing Ask the Gynecologists series, where we take some time to answer questions that we receive about a variety of topics related to reproductive health and wellness for women. Here at Gynecology Associates of Gwinnett, our philosophy is that education is a critical part of maintaining the best-possible gynecological health. Keep reading for more information on birth control, non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation, and urinary tract infections.

Q.) What additional health benefits do birth control pills offer women?

A.) Birth control pills are a highly effective form of contraception for women, but they can also provide a variety other reproductive health benefits. For example, birth control pills are commonly recommended for women who need help managing pelvic pain that results from endometriosis. Birth control pills can also help make your periods more regular, lower your risk of certain gynecological cancers, and help ease symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). They can reduce cramping (dysmenorrhea) and decrease the amount of bleeding that occurs during menstruation.

Q.) What makes someone a good candidate for non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation?

A.) Vaginal laxity, either after giving birth or due to natural changes that occur over time, is very common among women. Any Woman who experiences this can be excellent candidate for FemTouch™ Non-Surgical Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation. FemTouch™ treatments can also help women who suffer with many of the most common vaginal health symptoms including vaginal itching, vaginal dryness, and painful or unsatisfying sex. Additionally, FemTouch™ can relieve bladder leakage that results from stress urinary incontinence.

Q.) How are urinary tract infections (UTIs) treated?

A.) In most cases, oral antibiotics are used to treat UTIs. The type of antibiotic used, as well as the dosage and length of your treatment period, depend on the type of bacteria that is causing the infection and your personal medical history. While UTI symptoms may disappear after one to two days, it’s important to finish all the antibiotics you were prescribed. Otherwise, the infection can linger on or even worsen.
