Hysteroscopy

What Is A Hysteroscopy?

A Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that is diagnostic in nature. This procedure is used to examine the inside of the uterus. The hysteroscope is a thin instrument with a camera attached to one end- this allows very careful and thorough examination of the uterine cavity. During a hysteroscopy, tissue samples may be taken, polyps or fibroid tumors may be removed, or cautery (destruction of tissue by electric current, freezing, heat, or chemicals) may be performed to stop internal bleeding. A hysteroscopy could also be combined with an endometrial biopsy before a full D&C (dilation and curettage) procedure.
