The New Year is a Great Time for a Well Woman Exam

The start of another new year is here. With so many resolutions and pledges in the air from people trying to improve their health, we recommend taking this time to focus on achieving the best possible reproductive health and wellness. Make the commitment to request a well woman exam early in the year.

According to statistics collected by the United Health Foundation, 81% of women between the ages of 18-64 had undergone a well-woman visit in the last two years. While this figure may seem high, that means millions of women in the US are not receiving the reproductive care and attention that healthcare experts agree they should. Making a point of undergoing a well woman exam at the start of the new year can be an excellent way to make sure you never go a year without this essential appointment.

Undergoing a well woman exam every year allows you to gain a full understanding of the state of your reproductive health. During the exam, we perform a series of physical examinations including a pelvic exam, Pap smear, and clinical breast exam. We also use well woman exams as a way to make sure you are caught up on your essential immunizations including the HPV vaccination. A well woman exam is also a part of maintaining good overall health. We include additional general wellness tests including testing your blood pressure, weight, and body mass index, as well as testing for any palpation of the abdomen and lymph nodes.

Additionally, a well woman exam provides a unique opportunity to speak with your gynecologist about any pressing issues or concerns you may have about your health including any changes you have experienced over the past year. There’s no such thing as a bad question during a well woman exam, so don’t hesitate to bring up and ask about any topic that may be on your mind.

With a new year comes a chance for new beginnings. And what better way to begin the year with a fresh start than by confirming a clean bill of reproductive health with a well woman exam?
